A hurricane outbreak in the state is possible over the next two weeks. Forecasters have identified a “higher than normal” 59% chance of a Texas hurricane strike this year + a 28% chance of a major hurricane strike. Learn more. (KXAN)
List Edu -
AISD recently held a public input session to discuss a possible $50 million teacher housing bond. The bond, which could be added to the November election, would be different from the district’s main bond package. Read more about the possible housing units. (Community Impact Austin)
Civic -
Some local residents could start receiving assistance from the City of Austin’s guaranteed income pilot program in September. The program would give $1,000 a month to up to 135 eligible families or individuals in Travis County. City officials are in the process of working with an organization on next steps. (KXAN)
Health -
AISD will provide free and accessible menstrual products for students this fall. Hygiene product dispensers are currently being installed in middle and high school restrooms, and elementary students will have access to the products at their schools. (KVUE)

Tarek Atoui, a Paris-based artist + composer, now has art on display at The Contemporary Austin for free until Sun., Aug. 7. The exhibition, which is named “The Whisperers,” explores the medium of sound and will close Sun., Aug. 14. (The Austin Chronicle)

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area + Pedernales Falls State Park are temporarily closed due to nearby wildfires in Gillespie and Blanco counties. Stay up-to-date with the parks on the Texas Parks and Wildlife’s website. (KXAN)

We’re still trying to recover from the news of Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds — most Austinites simply call it “Lucy in Disguise” — announcing its closing. The year-round costume shop has been supplying the community with fun outfits for 38 years on South Congress Avenue. As we shared in our newsletter yesterday, the costume shop will officially close its doors by the end of the year. The news, which was announced on the store’s Instagram page, came as a shock to many people in the Austin community, and we’re sharing some of the comments from the post. Get your tissues ready…
